Converse
is one of the oldest, most popular, and all time bestselling basketball shoe.
The thick
red rope of the proposed structure represents the shoe lace and carries a
message: help, I need you, I love you, talk to me, join red hundred. Converse
participates in (PRODUCT) RED which is
designed to deliver a sustainable
flow of private sector money to The Global Fund to invest in AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria
programs in Africa and elsewhere.
The goal of Converse was to market 100 Converse (PRODUCT) RED shoes beginning spring 2008 to kick off a
year-long celebration of the cause. Designed to help fight
AIDS in Africa, the Converse (PRODUCT) RED™
LOVE line gives people an outlet to express themselves in more ways than one.
The “I heart ____” shoe invites everyone to fill in
the blank and wear their heart on their Chucks.
The concept for this exhibition space for
Chuck Taylors Converse came from
the Converse shoe itself: laces and the most popular/ common way of tying shoe
laces – the criss-cross pattern. The design of the
structure for the converse exhibition space revolves around the concept of tying
laces.
To
make this concept a possible reality, four supports are held with the help of a
criss-cross stitching pattern through the holes of the structure (which
are at regular intervals). This inter-weaving eventually creates a space which
is eventually used for display and interactive activates. The material
for main element of the structure --- the criss-crossing pattern that forms the structure as well as the space is thick rope
which is red in colour (representing the Join RED Cause). The four metal
supports for the structure which form a crucial part of the entire design is of
metal and its base is welded into base floor.
The display
of products and interactive screens have been placed on opposite sides. This structure
manages to display around 100 shoes. While the lower screens are interactive
and allow the visitor to digitally create his or her own Converse, the screens
which are at a higher level are purely for digital display of shoes and other Converse
products.
